Survival Tales: The stories of three renovations

Wednesday October 12, 5 PM to 9 PM @BCIT Downtown, 555 Seymour St.

Three local projects will be illustrated by homeowners and/or architects, who will share their experiences and engage course participants in a discussion of residential conservation projects “from the inside out”.

Moderated by architect Allan Diamond, the three case studies will feature: a homeowner’s “do-it-yourself” project converting a heritage house divided up with rental units back to a single family residence, an architectural firm helping a heritage B homeowner navigate zoning and permitting with the Heritage Department, and an architect’s project undoing a 70's reno.

Sunday, October 16th, Historic Fraser Valley

Home to the Sto:lo Nation for thousands of years and European settlement since the 1820s, the Fraser Valley is full of history.

A day trip to significant historical places including the historic Clayburn Village, old cemeteries, First Nations sites and much more, led by local civic historian John Atkin.

Lunch and transportation is included. We will meet in Vancouver prior to departure.

Salvage clearance

Friday, August 5, 10 AM to 3 PM @115 - 7011 Elmbridge Way (Gilbert & Elmbridge Way, Richmond, in the alley behind Fitness World - north wing of the same building, facing Gilbert)

The first warehouse salvage sale was held on Saturday May 14th, 2011 in a warehouse in Richmond. Close to 1000 people attended the sale and over $10,000 were raised that day for the VHF!

This time, VHF will organize an even bigger salvage sale. Friday August 5th's clearance sale is intended to clear out any salvage that remained after May 14th. If you have items you would like to donate for a future sale please contact rebecca@vancouverheritagefoundation.org with photos.

Old School is the leading heritage conservation education program in BC offering courses and workshops for professionals and homeowners on the theory and practice of conserving older buildings.
